Entergy’s Louisiana utilities are sending a team of more than 200 employees and contractors to the East Coast to help restore power following anticipated widespread damage by Hurricane Dorian.
This fall, 13 Louisiana high school graduates will attend college with a little help from Entergy's Community Power Scholarship program. The children of Entergy employees in Louisiana each received $5,000 in recognition of their community service, academic achievements, leadership and work experience.
Taking New Orleans to the forefront of cities powered by renewable energy, Entergy New Orleans is moving forward on a portfolio of proposals that will add 90 megawatts of solar energy to its already clean energy mix. The company has narrowed the group down to three viable projects, which were approved by the New Orleans City Council last month. These are a 20 MW solar facility to be constructed by Entergy on approximately 100 acres of flood-protected property at NASA’s Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans East, a 50 MW power purchase agreement from a solar facility to be constructed on LSU AgCenter land in Washington Parish, and a 20 MW power purchase agreement from a solar facility to be constructed on land in St. James Parish.
Entergy New Orleans is hopeful that its proposed approach, or the Path to Progress, will afford the Company and the Council an opportunity to work collaboratively to address the needs of the communities served.
In another move to harness the power of the sun where empty commercial rooftops once stood, Entergy New Orleans and the New Orleans Regional Transit Authority have reached agreement to install solar panels on the roof of the agency’s Carrollton Streetcar Barn. The 300-kilowatt system will feed directly onto the Entergy New Orleans electric distribution grid for the benefit of all customers, and is part of Entergy New Orleans’ 5-megawatt commercial-scale rooftop solar project, which was approved by the New Orleans City Council last year.
Power has been knocked out to approximately 58,000 customers as of 10:30 a.m. Saturday as Hurricane Barry moves over the Louisiana coast.
Entergy’s Louisiana utilities continue to monitor Tropical Storm Barry and are preparing for potential impact to the state. A team of more than 1200 crew members have been assembled to respond to the storm, and an additional 770 workers from other neighboring Entergy utilities have been mobilized to assist with restoration in Louisiana. Entergy also can call in additional crews to assist pending the path and intensity of the storm.
Entergy continues to monitor the disturbance located off the coast of Florida as it moves toward the central Gulf of Mexico.
