Winter brought extreme cold weather to southeast Texas this season, which prompted record-low temperatures and high electricity usage in late December and early January. As a result, some Entergy Texas customers are experiencing higher-than-normal electricity bills.
The Southeast’s normally mild winters don’t typically result in high energy bills. However, in parts of Entergy’s service area, temperatures recently reached 20 to 30 degrees below average.

Cold weather and electricity usage were on the rise in Arkansas in late December and early January. Some Entergy Arkansas customers, as a result, are experiencing higher-than-normal electricity bills. It also happens that this increase in usage coincides with new rates that took effect for 2018.
Our power reliability coordinator, the Midcontinent Independent System Operator, is requesting Entergy customers voluntarily reduce their electricity usage on Thursday, Jan. 18, between 5 a.m. and 11 a.m.
