Another restoration milestone was reached in Louisiana today with the re-energization of the second of nine high-voltage lines feeding power into the Lake Charles area.

Approximately 23,000 customer outages have been restored in Calcasieu and Cameron parishes just two weeks after the region bore the brunt of Hurricane Laura.

As crews work to restore power in Southwest Louisiana, customers may see new distribution poles but remain without power. While the distribution system was heavily impacted by Hurricane Laura, we also had significant damage to our transmission system. This system consists of lines carrying high-voltage electricity quickly and efficiently over long distances and are often seen along highways, interstates or crossing water. While our distribution structures were damaged as well, transmission structures are larger, harder to transport, and require more crews to construct.

Lake Charles/Sulphur damaged distribution equipment replaced includes 8,809 poles, 2,313 transformers and 18,254 spans of wire.

Entergy Louisiana successfully restarted one of its power plants in Calcasieu Parish Sept. 9, an achievement that paves the way for restoring power to additional communities impacted by Hurricane Laura in Sulphur and Lake Charles.
