New Orleans – Hurricane season officially begins on June 1, and Entergy New Orleans and Entergy Louisiana are encouraging all customers to join us as we prepare for the upcoming storm season.

Storms are impacting our region more frequently with increasing intensity. Weather forecasters are predicting a very active 2024 hurricane season with 24 named storms, 11 of which will become hurricanes and 6 of which will reach Category 3 status or stronger. The company encourages customers to start making safety preparations now to minimize storm impacts.

To enhance the reliability of our service, Entergy proactively invests in strengthening and upgrading our power delivery system. The company continuously works to minimize the risk of storm-related outages by enhancing existing infrastructure, deploying animal and vegetation mitigation measures, rebuilding significant portions of the grid, and accelerating the transition to a smart grid. Since 2019, ENO has spent over $35m in making our grid more reliable.  These investments harden the grid against more frequent and intense weather events.

“Our dedicated group of operations employees and contractors are committed to creating a more resilient grid that provides customers with the reliability they expect and deserve” said Steven Benyard, Entergy’s vice president of reliability. “At Entergy, we are intentional and strategic about where and how improvements are made.”

Stay Prepared

Staying storm ready is a full-time commitment. When anticipating severe weather, Entergy uses computer models and past storm data to forecast potential damage to our power delivery system.  Using these estimates, Entergy proactively deploys restoration teams in areas experiencing extreme weather to safely restore power as quickly as possible.

“Safety is our top priority. We encourage customers to remain safe and to have a plan in place when severe weather strikes,” stated Nyka Scott, vice president, customer service at Entergy New Orleans. “Don’t wait to get the materials you need to secure your home. Take time to assemble a storm kit for emergency situations and create an evacuation plan if flooding is forecasted in your area.”
