Twelve-story Animated Lightshow to Dazzle Downtown, Salute LSU, BCS, and Showcase New Orleans

01/06/2012

Includes 3D Graphics, Live Scoreboard and Polls Before, During and After BCS Championship Game

NEW ORLEANS – Capping off a week of major sporting events in the Crescent City, New Orleans-based Entergy Corporation has arranged to showcase its hometown during the BCS national championship game with a series of BCS, LSU and New Orleans-themed images to be projected onto its 28-story office tower adjacent to the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. The dramatic animated graphics – created by the Solomon Group, the same company that designed the new Superdome lighting – were rendered in 3D and will appear as if they are protruding from the building. The projections will kick off at sundown on Monday, Jan. 9, and continue until dawn of the next morning.

The projection area on the Superdome side of the Entergy building will be nearly half the size of a football field at 148.5 feet by 132 feet.  The animated graphics will welcome to New Orleans tens of thousands of visitors and millions of television viewers who will be watching the BCS National Championship Game between the LSU Tigers and Alabama Crimson Tide. The graphics will include a continuously updated 3 1/2-story scoreboard, along with a "Welcome to New Orleans" pre-game banner featuring 3D images of a classic gas lamp – equal to the length of two NOLA street cars – with letters visually depicted to extend 10-feet off the building and a 12-story LSU banner that "unfurls" from the top of the building.

"The BCS championship game is the culmination of an incredible week for New Orleans and Louisiana with three major sporting events and two NBA games in seven days," said Wayne Leonard, Entergy chairman and chief executive officer. "We wanted the rest of the nation to experience the vibrant and innovative spirit of New Orleans. This electrifying display is our way of showcasing our hometown and supporting our home team."

Throughout the game, there will also be live team and game trivia and polls projected onto the building before, during and after the championship tilt. The public will be encouraged to provide real-time answers through texting or tweeting.

A sneak preview of the graphics display will be visible on the Superdome side of the Entergy building on Sunday evening at sunset.
