Majority of Storm-Affected Southwest Louisiana Customers Could be Restored by Sept. 23

09/14/2020

Crews are making significant progress in southwest Louisiana and now expect to make power available to the majority of customers affected by Hurricane Laura by Sept. 23. They expect to restore power to the remaining customers who can safely receive it by Sept. 30.

As of 4 p.m. Monday, approximately 48,500 customers remain without power in southwest Louisiana, down from a peak of approximately 93,000 outages. In total, Entergy Louisiana has brought power back on to approximately 222,400 out of the 270,900 customers who lost power following Laura. Over the course of the storm and restoration, the company has restored 402,986 individual outages in Louisiana as of 7 p.m. Monday.

As Entergy continues to make headway in southwest Louisiana, its Louisiana utilities are continuing to make preparations ahead of any impacts from Hurricane Sally.

The storm has the potential to bring high winds, torrential rains, high tides and coastal flooding to portions of southeast Louisiana, and power outages could occur. Entergy Louisiana and Entergy New Orleans crews and contractors are on alert and ready to restore power where it is safe to do so. While some work to restore power can be done on the ground, work in the air from bucket trucks cannot be performed in wind conditions of 30 mph or greater.

As we continue to restore power in southwest Louisiana, we want to ensure that you can accept power when it becomes available over the next few weeks. Check for damage to the electrical equipment attached to your home or business and contact an electrician to make any needed repairs. For information on your home’s electrical equipment, entergy.com/hurricanelaura/home-repairs. If damage has been repaired by a qualified electrician, please call 1-800-ENTERGY to generate a service reconnection work order.

Restoration for customers in southwest Louisiana is a methodical process. While crews are working in all areas, those with the least amount of damage will be restored sooner. Some customers without power may notice that the electric system in their immediate area has been repaired or appears to be in good condition. Those customers could still be without power because electric equipment is damaged in portions of the system that they cannot see, sometimes miles away. Entergy Louisiana is committed to repairing and rebuilding the electric system until every customer who was impacted by the storm has power available to them. As work progresses, we will update restoration timeframes with increasingly accurate estimates.
