Entergy, Saenger Theatre partner on special performance of Disney's THE LION KING

11/10/2022

United Way and Son of a Saint participants received tickets to Disney’s THE LION KING, which is currently playing at the Saenger Theatre through November 13. The Saenger Theatre, in partnership with Entergy, provided tickets to members of both charitable organizations for Friday’s performance.

“Disney’s The Lion King tells the story of friendship, community, hope and support,” said Deanna Rodriguez, president and CEO of Entergy New Orleans. “United Way of Southeast Louisiana and Son of a Saint work tirelessly to share these values – and more – in our communities every day. We hope the young men and women that get to see the show are uplifted by its beauty and go on to use their talent and treasures to be successful leaders and inspire others around them.”

Participants from these local programs received 200 tickets for the performance on Friday, November 4, during the run of Disney’s THE LION KING, which arrived at the Saenger Theatre on October 27.

"We are extremely grateful to Entergy New Orleans for generously providing tickets for our mentees to attend Disney’s “The Lion King” at the Saenger Theatre," said Son of a Saint Founder and CEO Bivian "Sonny" Lee, III. "Exposure to these types of unique and enriching experiences is deeply important for the young men that we serve. One opportunity to attend a Broadway show can easily translate to a favorite memory, a newfound passion, or even a future career path."

“Too many households in our community miss out on the Saenger’s enriching shows simply because their budgets can’t cover extra costs like entertainment,” said Michael Williamson, UWSELA president and CEO. “Thanks to Entergy, we were able to provide families and young people living below the ALICE Threshold with a memorable experience that we hope helps them imagine brighter futures for themselves.”

Both United Way and Son of a Saint have served the Greater New Orleans Area for a number of years. Son of a Saint is a local organization that provides mentorship, education, recreation, camaraderie and cultural enrichment to young men in New Orleans who are fatherless due to death or incarceration. United Way of Southeast Louisiana is committed to improving lives by mobilizing the caring power of the community and fighting for health, education and financial stability.
