Entergy Customers Claim Free Energy-Saving Trees

04/09/2019

Tree planting to improve urban environments and restore wetlands and other vital natural areas is a key action Entergy takes to support the company's ongoing commitment to sustaining the environment.

Among the numerous tree-planting programs the company supports through funding and volunteerism, this spring Entergy sponsored an energy-saving tree giveaway program in partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation. Entergy customers were encouraged to sign up to receive a free tree and help improve their community. By planting trees in the right places, homeowners can effectively shade their homes and save money on their energy bills each month. In addition, planting the right types of trees helps communities large and small improve energy efficiency, provides protection from damaging wind gusts, and creates cleaner air, water and carbon benefits.

Our customers were quick to reserve their trees with excitement. In fact, 100% of the trees were reserved within the first week of the program launch. In total, Entergy distributed 1,700 trees to customers across its four-state service territory. These trees will provide customers an energy savings of 3.2 million kilowatt hours, filter 31 million gallons of storm water runoff and capture 7.9 million pounds of carbon. Entergy has a longstanding partnership with The Arbor Day Foundation. Entergy had a similar campaign during the fall of 2018. In 2018, the organization also recognized Entergy for the 13th year as a "2018 Tree Line USA" in honor of its commitment to proper tree pruning, planting and care in the company's service area.
